Reunions

Reunions make those months between leaving the quad and returning to it tolerable and are held frequently(ish) throughout the year. Practically all reunions take place in Dublin, though some smaller groups of friends occassionally hold small reunions in Cork or Carlow etc. The favourite, and almost exclusive, gathering place of CTYIers is at the gates of St. Stephen's Green (facing the shopping centre). Reunions normally assemble at around noon, and stick around the Green until about 12:45.

As the population of CTYI is generally quite divided, reunions are usually separate for Session 1 and 2, or for the CAT programme. At the large Summer, Christmas and Easter reunions, everybody comes together forming a large crowd.

The Annual Summer Reunion is held ususlly on the last Saturday in August, just before school returns. This is the biggest, most awaited reunion of the year and practically all students attend.

History

Having done a bit of trawling across the internet I found that in 2000 one of the places popular for assembling for reunions was Eason's on O'Connell St. I wonder what happened to that, I'm sure its a story in and of itself!

The Bunker

A most popular destination during reunions is "The Bunker" in Burger King. The staff there are pretty relaxed about us being down there once we don't get in people's way and don't annoy other customers excessively. We've only been thrown out once. It is a nice hidden(ish) location and is quite isolated from the rest of the restaurant allowing us to have a bit of privacy and avoid weird stares.

The Rock Garden

In the Green there is a rock garden, possibly the best place for sitting and talking to people. It is absolutely amazing when it is sunny and warm and stuff, not so good when it is raining. If it is raining we go to the Bunker (see above).
