Points game

The Points Game is a traditional CTYI game in which the object is to make out shamelessly with as many members of the students and staff as physically possible in three weeks. It is a team sport, where the winners are the RA group with the most points at the end of a session. In some years, there are two winning groups: one male and one female.

Points
Although the rules vary every year, and from session to session, the following is the general list of the points received if somebody is made out with, scored, shifted, met, etc., etc.
- CTYIzen/CAT/Summer Scholar (opposite sex): 1
- CTYIzen/CAT/Summer Scholar (same sex): 2 (However, see "Variations")
- Frigid CTYIzen/CAT/Summer Scholar (opposite sex): 5
- Frigid CTYIzen/CAT/Summer Scholar (same sex): 10
- RA: 200 +
- TA: 250 +
- Teacher: 500 +
- Any Admin: 1,000 +
- Colm O'Reilly: Instant Win, game over
note: these rules may vary slightly from session to session.
Additional Points and Deductions
- All the above are 0 marks if in same RA group (RAs excluded) and nobody can be scored by the same person more than once
- Special amounts of points(Usually 20) are given for designated people, who are sometimes referred to as the 'Golden Snitch'.
- Some allow that progressing further than simple oral-to-oral contact is worthy of additional points, but obviously such behaviour cannot be actively encouraged by the RAs (or at least, not without the qualifier "WITH a johnny, lads.").
- Deductions of points are more subjective, and usually vary more between RA groups and such; it also must be noted that many RA groups will not, for obvious reasons, deduct points even when they should. This is a basic list:
- Specifically named students, infamously known for exceptionally promiscuous behaviour = -2. Notable exceptions are Aoife (Jesus) in Session 1 '10 (-20) and Lorcan Dunne in Session 1 '08 (-100) (Lorcan being responsible for the lowest points score in History: -164, when he gobsmacked a lad (-200 points) in a certain RA (with a tendency for bacon and cabbage)'s group, taking them from the lead on the last day, to the very lowest)

- However, if the student in question is in a relationship for more than a week, then 10 points are given to both RA groups.

- Sportalians = Instant Lose and exile from the community of CTYI.

Variations
- Couples: generally given 1 point for the initial score and another point for every additional 3 days together
- This rule is not a popular one, and is often ignored. It was enforced during Session 1 of '08, though some students objected to it on the grounds that it simultaneously awarded points for pious fidelity and unabashed promiscuity, an attitude which seems a trifle hypocritical.
- Sometimes 2 or even more points are awarded for every week that a couple are together. And on that note, a survey was done in Session 2, 2010 by the Journalism class about how many points should be awarded - it was agreed by most that 3 points should be awarded to each person for every week they are together, as well as the initial point for scoring.
- Gay couples: there is a lot of ambiguity as to whether a gay couple receive double points or regular ones. This is usually decided on a case to case basis.
- Student (frigid): 5 points are awarded to the frigid involved and the person they met.
- If both are frigids, 10 points are scored for both.
- If both are frigids and of the same sex, 20 points are scored for both.
- Sportalians: although generally considered to be worth a large deduction, there have been claims of Sportalians being 200 points + or even an Instant Win. This has happened once at CTYI, a girl(no names) scored a Sportalian in Session 2 2009, her team lost 50 points for this. In another incident, John's RA group (Session 1 2010) scored with 3 Sportalians, meaning that they had the second-lowest score in the history of the game at -124 points.
- Two RAs: Although not counted two RAs did apparently go out for session 2 '08, if two RAs were to score, each RA group would receive points. These figures have varied greatly, with 50 points per group being the average.
- Plasma physicists (Related to the EPS2010 conference): 1000 +
- Spectres: In 2010/11, new rules were introduced regarding Spectres, previous CTYI students who were too old to attend but hung around the open campus,initially giving 10 points, but later changing to 1 (scoring spectres of the same sex doubles the points awarded). However, there were many objections due to the fact that this just encouraged Caoimhe Foley meeting all her old mates and claiming points for her RA group for essentially randomers on the street. It was agreed that this rule should be outlawed for future years. In session 2 2011, spectres were 3 points.
Ban on the game in Session 2 2010
- The information below has been confirmed as true.
- According to John (ARC 2010) the game is completely banned and simply mentioning the game can result in a phone call home.
- There is currently (session 2 2010) a crackdown on the "players" of this cruel game because it apparently puts pressure on "newbies" to play. This is under debate as 'The Game' shouldn't actually be serious or force anyone to take part.
